Work in progress

I am an artist living and working in the inspiring and ancient New Forest, UK. I moved here over twenty years ago, having previously graduated with a BA(Hons) from Camberwell School of Art in 1989. I walk out most days in the Forest and am very familiar with the wildlife and landscape. I take a sketchbook out with me when walking to get ideas for longer plein air sessions.
Direct observation from nature is integral to my work. For me the only way to get the feel of a particular tree or viewpoint- the tones, colours, depth and light - is to have experienced it on the spot. I may complete a work solely outside or work up sketches and notes later in the studio for more involved projects.

Landscapes
In 2026 it is my intention to further develop my artistic identity. I have three main directions for the year ahead. I'm working towards integrating more folklore and spiritual narratives into my landscapes. I aim to abstract landscapes, focusing on my emotional reactions to being in and observing the Forest. I will also be using my press setup to further explore printmaking. These will be developed from my sketches of the area.

Innerscapes
I am also collaborating with a group of postmenopausal women artists led by Stephanie James @stephanieljames, "exploring ageing, loss, and transformation. Together creating new work that challenges invisibility and celebrates mature women's creativity." We are looking inward, discussing and exploring and will be exhibiting at SPUDworks, Sway in April 2026 as part of the
In Bounds project - ahead of an exhibition in Venice in September.
